02 | SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS

Your submission is assessed across five pillars aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. All responses are judged relative to your business size — a sole trader and a national chain are assessed fairly. Focus on specific examples and evidence of real impact.

Written Questions — Five Sustainability Pillars

Answer the written questions for each of the five pillars below. Each response must be between 100 and 300 words.
Quality of evidence matters more than length.
✔ Pillar 1: Planet — Environmental Impact (SDGs 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 15)
✔ Pillar 2: People — Social Responsibility (SDGs 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10)
✔ Pillar 3: Product & Supply Chain Integrity (SDGs 8, 9, 12)
✔ Pillar 4: Governance & Ethics (SDG 16)

03 | WRITTEN SUBMISSION

Please answer the questions for each pillar below. Judges assess impact relative to your retailer size, resources, and sphere of influence — not absolute scale. Reward is given for authenticity, measurable progress, and leadership.

PILLAR 1 | Planet: Environmental Impact

SDGs 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 15 | Energy · Water · Waste · Packaging · Carbon · Circularity · Biodiversity
Include what you have done, when, and why. Cover energy, water, waste, packaging, carbon, or circularity as relevant to your business.
Share any metrics, targets, or progress figures. Even estimates are useful. Judges understand smaller businesses may not have formal reporting.

PILLAR 2 | People: Social Responsibility

SDGs 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10 | Fair Work · Wellbeing · DEI · Training · Community · Human Rights
Include wages, contracts, hours, wellbeing policies, staff representation, DEI, and training or development opportunities.
Include partnerships, donations, volunteering, community events, local employment, or social initiatives.

PILLAR 3 | Product & Supply Chain Integrity

SDGs 8, 9, 12 | Responsible Sourcing · Traceability · Supplier Standards · Innovation
Include supplier selection criteria, ethical standards, certifications, traceability, and any supplier engagement or development activities. Partial visibility is common and will be fairly assessed.
e.g. rental, repair, refill, product take-back, circular design, zero-waste ranges, or sustainable product credentials (Fair Trade, organic, recycled, etc.).

PILLAR 4 | Governance & Ethics

SDG 16 | Ethical Leadership · Transparency · Targets · Accountability · Integrity
Include formal or informal commitments, written policies, public pledges, certifications, or reporting. These are assessed relative to your business size.
Judges value self-awareness and honesty. This will not reduce your score — it may increase it. This award recognises meaningful progress, not perfection.

PILLAR 5 | Partnerships & Influence

SDG 17 | Collaboration · Customer Education · Industry Leadership · Advocacy
Include suppliers, NGOs, community groups, industry bodies, or other businesses. Also describe how you help customers make more sustainable choices — labelling, events, content, nudge strategies.
What makes your approach authentic, innovative, or inspiring? What would judges remember about your submission?
