The DPD Group’s e-Shopper Barometer study, conducted in September/October this year across 21 European countries produced some interesting results. Across Europe, 79% of those surveyed intend to buy gifts online for Christmas, spending an average of €217. However, in Ireland, the online purchasing intention is slightly higher at 81% and we’ll spend an average of €305. Fashion is the no.1 intended purchase item for the Irish respondent, but it’s at no.4 in the European context (preceded by 1. Books, 2. Toys, 3. Beauty/Healthcare). Does this mean we’re more fashion conscious than our other European cousins?!
The DPD Group study was carried out by Kantar TNS. DPD is Ireland’s largest dedicated parcel carrier with 38 depots throughout the country. Part of the DPD Group, the DPD network delivers over 3 million parcels daily throughout Europe. As the delivery partner of choice for many well know retail and etail brands, developing delivery solutions that work for the online shopper has been a key focus for the business.
Flexibility and convenience around delivery where the consumer is permitted to make choices around when, where and how are really important. And all of these choices must be presented in an intuitive way which suits the consumer’s choice of communication channel. DPD Parcel Wizard – available online and as an App, gives the consumer their own dedicated platform to manage deliveries.
DPD Pickup, launched in September this year, increases DPD’s parcel pickup and drop off locations to almost 600, with Pickup points available at local shops and garage throughout the country.
Convenience, flexibility and traceability are the key wants of the online consumer. Deliver to me when and where it suits me and update me throughout the process.
