Retail & Government Policy

The Irish Retail Industry is Ireland’s largest private industry employing 282,000 people. Retail has a very significant and positive impact on society generally and on local economies specifically. Retail is significantly labour intense and is the largest local employer in most towns and villages. Retail has a strong distributive effect on local economies with every euro spent in a local shop delivering four times the benefit in the local economy.
