Research
REI RESEARCH & MARKET INTELLIGENCE allows our members to compare their business performance with that of their peers. It also assists members with wage and rent cost decisions.
The Retail Excellence Ireland Quarterly Productivity Review collates and analyses trading data from over 3,500 stores operating in the Republic of Ireland (approximately 15% of all stores in the market). We expanded our selection in 2011 to include:
- Fashion
- Footwear
- Home & Gift
- Pharmacy
- Jewellery
- Grocery
- Furniture | Flooring
- Garden Centres
- Hot Beverage Sales
All members who trade in these sectors are kindly requested to participate in the quarterly analysis on a strictly confidential basis.
These quarterly productivity reviews are covered extensively by the Irish media and assist REI in discussing retail trends with key industry decision makers.
Trading Statements: REI works with all members to disseminate a trading update in December (REI Christmas Trading Statement). REI will publish the Christmas Trading Statement (Part 1) on Friday 14th December 2012. We will publish the second part of the report on Friday 21st December 2012. This qualitative, two-part report will give retailers some insight on how they are trading versus the market on the run up to Christmas in 2012. It also allows our members to benchmark themselves against their peers (both locally and further afield) and indeed other sectors regarding performance.
Primary Research: Every year REI undertakes a programme of primary research. This research is conducted by a 3rd party retail company. In 2011 REI commissioned Behaviour & Attitudes to study consumer behaviour trends in the grey and youth markets. The results of these research reports were presented by Behaviour & Attitudes at key note REI conferences throughout 2011 (eg REI Multi Site Meeting - March 2011; Independence Day - April 2011 & REI Retail Retreat 2011 - September 2011).
Other Research: REI conducts many other research initiatives including member surveys, retail industry salary insights and sectoral analysis. We also undertook an extensive report on Service Charges in Retail Parks in 2010, the results of which was published in January 2012.
