Owner and Managing Director of the SuperValu Moriarty Group
Luke Moriarty is owner and Managing Director of The Moriarty Group, based in Palmerstown, in Dublin 20.
With interests in the independent supermarket sector, hotels, and property, The Moriarty Group employs over 600 people.
Luke Moriarty’s career in the retail sector began in Dublin in 1976, with Dunnes Stores.
He founded The Moriarty Group in 1987, when he opened his own SuperValu in Crumlin, followed by further Moriarty’s SuperValu supermarkets in Palmerstown in 1988, Balbriggan in 1991, Finglas in 1992, and Skerries in 1996. Luke is also Postmaster at two of the supermarket locations.
The Moriarty Group was involved in developing the stores, and many of the shopping centres in which they are located, as well as ongoing refurbishment and extension of the retail and hospitality business interests.
From Kerry, Luke Moriarty’s three adult children, Laura, James and Yvonne Moriarty are all involved in the family business, with Laura Moriarty in the role of company operations director.
Luke Moriarty also operates Balbriggan’s landmark four-star Bracken Court Hotel, and the four-star Court Yard Hotel in Leixlip, County Kildare.
A keen sports fan, Luke is a big GAA supporter, and was named 2013 Kerry Person of the Year by the Kerry Association in Dublin. He has served as Chairman of the Kerry Association and the Kerry Supporters Club, as well as on various retailer boards within the Musgrave Group, and independent trade associations.
Luke Moriarty is currently President of Balbriggan Chamber of Commerce.
From the foundation of his business nearly thirty years ago, through the difficult trading conditions of recent years, Luke Moriarty has held strongly to his conviction of reinvesting in business and people, enhancing the customer experience, and securing employment.
